Launching a Web Site: Can't see the forest for the trees.

Designing a successful web site requires the stakeholders to step back so they can see the forest for the trees.
We just returned from a client meeting whom we recently launched their new web site. Almost right off, I noticed two usability issues that needed addressing.
I know, I know. Usually companies brag about how great they are. I'm here to tell you that Merge isn't perfect. For this particular web site, there were two key items that needed addressing. And we missed them.
My point is this: when you're deep into a project, it's hard to see the fine details. It's like a home owner getting his house remodeled--the contractor is there all day, and the home owner can walk in and say: You missed that, you missed this. Why? The home owner isn't in day-to-day details of the project.
A web site is a living, breathing marketing tool. Take a step back, spend some time away, and review your web site with a fresh keen eye. Maybe have a totally objective party (that hopefully has some web expertise) take a look once the project is done or about to launch. And lastly, for the web community: how about some peer review? That's not such a bad idea if I don't say so myself.
