Do we really want to do it ourselves?
What if you only did what you were best at doing?
What if do-it-yourself wasn't an option? You could only do what you were skilled at doing? No more lawn projects--you would hire a professional to do those. No more trying to fix your own car. You pay the $30 and have somebody else change your oil. You didn't try to list your home for sale by owner, but instead, you enlisted a Realtor.
Then think about what would happen if you were the lawn professional, the mechanic or the Realtor. But you didn't try to short-circuit the system by taking on DIY projects yourself.
Perhaps DIY started with Home Depot and Lowes. DIY has definitely been exacerbated by the very thing I love--the web. DIY websites, DIY newsletters,, DIY...blogs.
Yes, America, we can do it ourselves. The question is, do we really want to?
What if everyone only did what they were best at doing?
